The Special Role of Mother of the Bride

In honor of Mother’s Day, we want to look at one of the most important roles in any wedding party — the mother of the bride. If your daughter is getting married, you are probably very excited and looking for ways to help her.

For many types of weddings, the mother of the bride will have a special role during the ceremony. Whether it’s blessing the groom, helping to give away your daughter, or something else, you should prepare for this big moment.

Mother of the Bride

Of course, you’ll also be your daughter’s support throughout the planning. While you might need to hold back from making too many suggestions, you will need to be there for her. She’s likely to be stressed and a bit nervous, and will need her mother’s support and love!

As mother of the bride, you’ll get to experience a new chapter in your little girl’s life, from trying on wedding dresses to getting ready on the day of the wedding. Try to cherish these moments and remind your daughter that you will always love her.

Planning a Vow Renewal Ceremony

Vow renewal ceremonies can be a great way to celebrate your love. They have become more popular are are quickly overtaking traditional anniversary parties.

Vow renewal ceremonies are a great trend.

Along with being a great experience for a couple, they have also grown in popularity because a large number of celebrities have had their own vow renewal ceremonies. This week, for example, Mariah Carey and her husband, Nick Cannon, celebrated their fifth anniversary with a vow renewal ceremony at Disneyland.

The planning involved in a vow renewal is very similar to planning a wedding. Today’s vow renewals are becoming almost identical to traditional weddings, with many women choosing to wear a bridal gown for the event.

As many couples have a vow renewal to celebrate a landmark anniversary, they may also be more financially stable. This gives them the opportunity to have the big wedding they may have wanted years before but couldn’t quite afford.

If you’re considering a vow renewal ceremony here in Calgary, give us a call to find out how we can help with the planning!

Why Brides Should Ignore Celebrity Weddings

Celebrity weddings can be fun to look at, and they can give brides some great inspiration. However, in many cases it can create problems when a bride pays too much attention to what celebrities are doing for their weddings.

Behind all the long-range paparazzi photos and glossy magazine spreads are huge budgets. Yet even the biggest celebrity wedding couldn’t possibly incorporate all the other celebrity wedding ideas that came before it!

When a bride gets too wrapped up in what the A-list celebrities are doing for their weddings, she runs the risk of forgetting what is really important to her. A wedding day is a reflection of the couple getting married, their families, and their traditions.

Working with a wedding planner can help you keep on track, and keep you thinking about what will truly make your day special for you. While you can take inspiration from elements of celebrity weddings, a wedding planner can help you decide what will work for your big day.

Handling In Law Issues Before Your Wedding

A wedding is the merging of two families and sometimes cultures.  If you come from large families this will be even a great task.  But it can be done effectively.

Here are a few tips on how to handle in-law issues before and after your wedding:

Establish the upper hand by learning details about your new family.  This will impress your in-laws and show them that you care about the family heritage and culture.  For example, a bride who got married a couple of months ago got to know that her sister-in-law was an artist.  She she took along a set of paints for her when they went for a visit.  The sister-in-laws face lit up because she didn’t expect such a personal gift.  The rest is blissful history.

Learn to adjust - If you’re marrying into a very traditional family, making small adjustments will take you far.  Even if you have to cover your head with a sari pallu and touch people’s feet, it doesn’t change who you are inside.  Keep that in mind and you won’t resent family members who expect it when you visit them.

Remember to love and forgive - Love and forgiveness goes a long way when having to deal with in-laws.  Remember that you married each other and vowed to make your spouse happy.  That will come in handy when having to stand up for your mate.

What have you done to bridge a gap between you and your in-laws?  Please share it with our blog readers.

The Tradition Behind the Mehndi Night

As a wedding planner in Calgary who caters to Sikh, Hindu, Buddhist and Muslim weddings, my job is to know the meanings behind wedding traditions so that each couples culture and spirituality is honored before, during and after their nuptials.

This week I’d like to talk about the beautiful Hindu wedding tradition of the Mehndi Night. This night is where the bride, her family, relatives and friends get together to celebrate the upcoming wedding and events that lead to it.  The night is filled with games, music and dance performances while the bride gets extensive henna patterns designed on her hands, feet and sometimes all the way up to her knees by multiple henna artists.

Tradition holds that for as long as the henna stain appears on the bride, she doesn’t have to do any housework!  Also, the darker the stain the better the marriage!  So today’s brides prefer to have their henna done prior to the Mehndi night so that they have a deeper stain by the wedding day.

There are several wedding traditions to follow and I’m here to help you prepare for as many or as little as you want.  Either way, it’s your event and our team is here to make it perfect for you.  Please give me a call and let’s chat about your upcoming wedding.
